Interactive installation / TintaSolta undergrad final project

This work is a re-interpretation of graffiti as a digital experience that highlights controversial dualities considered in the process of its creation, such as the presence of graffiti in the street and in galleries; its appreciation and its criminalization; and the value of manual art versus mechanically reproduced art. Through experimentation with digital tools and physical computing this work prompts reflection on graffiti as an artistic expression.

I've programed a Arduino, paired with Xbox's Kinect infrared camera. It reads the users hand position, process the data via Processing software, sends the information to the 2 motors and through a 3D printed spool, the nylon line moves the spray can device. It's activated once user's hand get closer to the camera. Through a smooth learning curve, the user feel the control but perceives the machine's clear signature of style, making a colaborative creation Machine and User.

How it works

Later studies developed in attaching a similar device to a drone, as a idea to paint large scale surfaces.
